Community Friends is a cross-cultural collaboration of like-minded people from Sri Lanka and the USA working together. We are fortunate to have gathered together a wonderful group of highly skilled volunteers and advisors.

Directors 
Seevali Ratnakara is a founder and director of Community Friends. She serves as Chair of the Board and Director of Programs. She has a Master’s in Human Resources Management from Central Queensland University, Australia.

Carsten Henningsen is a founder and serves as President of Community Friends. He is the founding Chairman of Portfolio 21 with 30 years experience in environmental and community investing. He is a graduate of University of Puget Sound, USA and Nyenrode, The Netherlands School of Business.

Jay Goodfriend is a founder and director of Community Friends and the President of Syntonic Microwave, an electronics design company based in the USA. He is a graduate of University of Oregon, USA and he is also a CPA.

Deva Ratnakara is a founder and director of Community Friends and serves as our Head of Operations. Deva is also the chief teacher and patron of Sadaham Mithuru Samuluwa, a training institution and community service non-profit. He has more than 25 years of experience in community service and graduated from Sadaham Mithuru Samuluwa, Sri Lanka.

Advisors
Dr. Barbara Tint is Chair of our Advisory Board. She is Associate Professor at Portland State University, USA and Affiliated Professor at the University of Oregon Law School, USA. She received a PhD in International Conflict Resolution from the University of Melbourne, Australia, Master’s in Psychology from University of Oregon, and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts, USA.

Dr. Gamini Hittinayake is an advisor for our land restoration project in Waitalawa. He is a professor at the University of Peradeniya. He received a PhD in Agro-Forestry from the University of Wales, UK, Master’s in Forestry from Oxford University, UK and a Bachelor’s in Agriculture from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.

Jeewaka Maddumage serves as our naturalist. He was a member of the founding Community Friends’ relief group that helped tsunami survivors in 2005. He is a Wildlife Officer for the Wildlife Department of Sri Lanka. Jeewaka graduated from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Dr. Ajith Ariyasena is a founding director of our Waitalawa Health Clinic. He is a doctor at Kandy General Hospital, Sri Lanka. He graduated from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He is the President of SMS, a Sri Lankan community service non profit.

Dr. Thilina Karunathilake volunteers his time with our program work. He is a doctor at Kandy Hospital, Sri Lanka. He graduated from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.

Dr. Shalika Kurukulaarachchi volunteers her time with our program work. She has worked at various hospitals treating highland tea plantation workers, including Peradeniya Teaching Hospital and Ragama General Hospital, Sri Lanka. She graduated from Kalaniya University and University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.

Krishani Siriwardane is a registered nurse and a founding member of our Waitalawa Health Clinic. She works at Colombo General Hospital, Sri Lanka. She graduated from the National Nursing Training School, Sri Lanka.

There have been countless others who have helped bring Community Friends into existence and continue to help with our program work. We thank you all for your generosity and ongoing support.
